Taming a Praying Mantis

In order to start taming a praying mantis, put your hand open at the door of the cage to allow the praying mantis to walk onto your palm. You must avoid picking the mantis up or grabbing it. Instead, simply let this insect climb into your hand. This way, the praying mantis is caused to think that your hand is a safe place to get in. If the insect is not willing to go to your hand, put a tiny piece of meat or an insect on your palm for the mantis to grab. Repeat this step each day till your mantis becomes comfortable enough climbing into your hand.

Once your pet has become comfortable enough, you can start gently taking it out of its cage. Avoid frightening your mantis and letting it want to escape by moving slowly. If you suspect the insect of jumping, make use of your free hand for shielding or cupping the area to keep the mantis from jumping.

In addition, the free hand must be used for you to feed the praying mantis while it is enjoying the comfort of your other palm. You can try to stroke the insect gently while it is eating. But if it gets shocked, stop and do it again the following day. After feeding and taming your pet, slowly return it to its cage. Make sure that you do this every single day.
